2025 Scholarship Programs

SCIA SCHOLARSHIPS **Please note: Deadline is May 31, 2025
Thank you for your interest in applying for one of our scholarships. This year SCIA will award 3 merit-based scholarships vie the Gordon “Bubba” Dove Foundation valued at $1000 each to qualified high school seniors or non-traditional students, 2 Chevron Maritime Scholarships to high school seniors or non- traditional students enrolled or planning to be enrolled in a Louisiana-based Maritime program, and 10 skilled trades scholarships valued at $500 each to high school seniors or non-traditional students. The deadline to apply is May 31. Candidates must be a child, grandchild, or employee of an SCIA member company.
Scholarships
To address the growing demand for skilled trades professionals in our region and to support workforce development, SCIA will now begin offering scholarships targeting high-demand trade programs. This initiative will provide financial assistance to individuals pursuing certifications in the following fields:
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL)
- Electrical Linework
- Welding
- Machining
- Diesel Mechanics
Purpose
The Skilled Trades Scholarship program aims to:
- Reduce the financial burden of vocational education for students entering the workforce
- Encourage enrollment in career pathways that are essential to local and regional industries
- Support a pipeline of qualified workers to meet current and future labor needs
Scholarship Details
- Amount per Award: $500
- Eligible Institutions: Technical and Community Colleges in Louisiana
Three merit-based Gordon “Bubba” Dove Foundation scholarships valued at $1,000.00 each will also be awarded to qualified high school seniors.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Candidate must be a child/grandchild of an employee of an SCIA member firm in good standing.
- Candidate must have a cumulative high school grade point average (at least 9-11) of 2.5 or greater based on a 4.0 scale.
- Candidates must have a minimum of 20 ACT score. (except for the Fletcher Scholarship)
- Candidate must have two letters of recommendation, one from an educator and one from an outside source (not a relative). Both letters must accompany the application.
- Candidate must have participated in extracurricular activities and provide community service activities OR must have work experience in its place.
- Candidate must have an essay of 500-700 words, typed, double-spaced, with references to research sources, if applicable, on individual goals (See questions below.)
- The completed application must be submitted to the SCIA, P.O. Box 2143, Houma, Louisiana 70361-2143 on or before May 31 of the candidates’ high school senior year.
- Candidate must attend an accredited Louisiana two or four year college program.
- Candidates must be willing to have their name and amount of assistance specified in an annual report provided to the SCIA.
The Chevron Maritime Scholarship is to be awarded to students enrolled or planning to be enrolled in a Louisiana-based Maritime program.
Eligibility and Qualifications
- Full time student
- Employee, child, or grandchild of an SCIA member company
- Applicants must have and maintain a 2.5 GPA.
