SCIA Endorses Constitutional Amendment No. 1 for Coastal Protection

HOUMA, LA — 10/11/2024

The South Central Industrial Association (SCIA) is pleased to announce its endorsement of Constitutional Amendment No. 1, which will be on the ballot November 5. This critical amendment seeks to dedicate future federal offshore revenues from alternative and renewable energy production, particularly offshore wind, to the Coastal Protection and Restoration Fund.

Joining SCIA in this important initiative are the South Louisiana Economic Council, Bayou Industrial Group, and Atchafalaya Intercoastal Coalition. Together, we stand united in our support for a “YES” vote on this amendment, which ensures that federal revenue generated from alternative and renewable energy production in the Outer Continental Shelf will be allocated to vital coastal protection and restoration efforts.

The passage of this amendment will provide necessary funding to enhance our coastal resilience, protect local ecosystems, and safeguard our communities against the impacts of climate change.

To help our members and stakeholders understand the significance of this amendment, a suite of educational materials has been compiled by our partners. These resources include key messages, frequently asked questions, and supporting facts that can be shared within your networks.

There is also a mini website dedicated to this initiative, where you can find background information and resources available in both editable formats and PDFs. In-depth information specifically focused on offshore wind development is also included, showcasing its benefits and potential for sustainable energy production in our region.

We encourage all members and stakeholders to engage in conversations about this vital amendment and to support it with a “YES” vote this fall. Together, we can make a significant impact on the future of our coastal resources.

South Central Industrial Association is oil & gas related industrial-based business association established in 1997 with over 240 member firms employing more than 200,000 employees serving a multi-parish area in South Louisiana, many of whom are engaged in servicing the oil and gas operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and around the world. SCIA focuses on energy addition rather than energy transition, as the oil and gas industry is vital to our region, our economy and our world.
