History of SCIA
2010 Louisiana Outstanding Business Champion By BESE, LDOE, & LCTCS
Membership multiplies your voice many times over...
South Central Industrial Association (SCIA) represents more than 250 member companies with over 200,000 employees, many of whom are engaged in servicing the oil, gas and marine operations in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and around the world. We serve as the economic engine for the bayou region, which is the hub for the offshore oil, gas and marine service businesses in Louisiana, while being interactive with the industry throughout the nation. In recognizing that we are "strength in numbers," SCIA advocates for levee protection, infrastructure, regulatory issues, workforce development, coastal preservation and coastal restoration.
The SCIA office is located at 1340 West Tunnel Blvd, The Atrium, Suite 500 B, and serves as the primary location for committee and special meetings. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The monthly general membership meetings are held on the third Tuesday of every month at Quality Hotel, 210 South Hollywood Road, Houma, LA. The meetings are a great place to network during fellowship time with about 200 people in attendance each month. Fellowship begins at 11:00 with the meeting beginning promptly at 11:45 a.m. and ending at 1:00 p.m. Lunch is $25.00 per person, payable at the door with cash, checks, and credit cards. Registration is required through the SCIA office for all meetings. The deadline for reservations and cancellations is the Monday by 8:30 a.m. before the General Membership meeting. No shows will be responsible for paying.
We are also engaged with developing educational and training programs that are indicative of our region. We work closely with Fletcher, SCLTC and Nicholls State University to foster programs that will enhance the growth and development of the bayou region. Another element of our workforce initiatives is our newly formed job exchange. The purpose of the job exchange is to assist our businesses who are placed in the position of laying off people. It is designed for SCIA member companies only to connect with other member companies who may possibly have job openings and are seeking employees. The program is totally confidential and must have the approval of the person seeking a job who has been laid off. This program is monitored through the SCIA office.
A Historical Perspective
South Central Industrial Association was established in 1997 as a non-profit organization designed as a network for industrial businesses. The South Central Industrial Association is a nonpolitical corporation dedicated to the promotion and advancement of our member firms through friendly communication with a spirit of cooperation in our approach to solving problems common to our industry. We will encourage the exchange of ideas and opinions on matters of common interest and will work diligently toward creating a better understanding of our industry's needs and concerns with our public officials.
